More Than Meets The Eye

Perfection. A mirage—a fantasy—an obsession.

“Oh you fancy huh?...Nail done.  Hair done.  Everything big…”  per Drake and many others,  physical appearance is what gives us our edge.  Now, let’s be frank…physical image is important and often dictates how people will respond to us.  Thus it is vital that we attempt to put our best foot forward at all times.  But what about that attitude?  What about that insecurity?  What about that explosive anger?  What about that unforgiveness?  What about the tendency to think inappropriate thoughts?  Are the responses which you receive from others the key that fits the lock to you?  What is it that frees you to be you?

Often in the mad attempt to look good physically, we neglect the most essential parts of us.  The true parts of us.  The truth parts of us—that sets us free.  We were made in the image of a perfect and flawless God.  Does God have a face?  What color is his skin?  What’s the current style of his/her hair?....None of those questions can be answered because God is a spirit (an unseen, powerful force).  So if we were made in God's image, how do we look like him/her?  How do we gain this “perfection”?

We wake up every morning, get dressed, do our hair, possibly put on make-up.  Most of us make every attempt at looking close to perfection as possible before we walk out that door and allow the public to get even the slightest glimpse at us.  But the mirror we look in to reach that state of “close to perfection” is the mirror that is least important.  We are killing ourselves trying to reflect the wrong image….Beyonce, Kanye West, etc…and so many others.  I must admit…it’s a whole heck of a lot easier to throw on the latest in fashion, some eye shadow, eyeliner, mascara, a little blush and lip gloss and walk out the house looking beat--than for me to take the time and look in the mirror of God’s spirit.  See then I would have to see me for my flawed self.  No cover ups, no enhancements.  Yet when I walk out the house looking beautiful on the inside, when I open my mouth and say all the wrong things…although still in place, all the makeup I put on begins to melt away.  Mirage.  What I thought was perfection has faded…with each encounter, it becomes more transparent and apparent that I have several flaws.  More than meets the eye.

The beauty of the mirror of Christ is this…he operates on a little principle called grace.  Where others will condemn you, never want to see you or talk to you again because of your imperfections (those we try to hide)…God grants us some space to get it right.  He’s patient, caring, kind and gentle…merciful!  The characteristics he graciously extends us--are those we should extend to others.  If we took the time to allow his love and grace to bring us that much closer to perfection, we would feel less pressed to hide behind the things of our choosing.  Because we would progressively become free from knowing there is one who sees all, and knows all…”He sees the depths of our hearts and he loves us the same”.  How much more perfect can life be than that.  No cover-ups.  No judgments.  Just love.  Free, even in our flaws.  Having nothing to do with whether or not we are fresh to death.  Because in the words of Swoope (my brother), “when freshness fades, the death will stay”.

Perfect—never.  Loved—forever.   And as Lupe Fiasco says “check your ingredients, before you overdose on the cool”.

So quick to judge everyone else.  Let’s self check—and make sure we are looking in the proper mirror.

Perfection--a mirage—a fantasy—an obsession.

Why am I “Freely Flawed”?  Because I’m loved, I’m forgiven, chosen, and I’m set free by the truth…God himself.

  Stay tuned....Tootles.

Freedom Song

Well hello world!! Of all the millions of people who blog...why join the masses? Simple. I have something to say, and my perspective like my fingerprint is unique! I have been told for years that I have a way with words, so I have finally decided to give--one of the gifts that was given to me. I owe it to you, myself and to the one who gave me the gift.

I am a lover of many things. God. Family. Friends. Music. Dance. Fashion. People and relationships. Life. Real. (And much more as you will see as time progresses!!)

Writing makes me feel good. Free. I am a very transparent person and open for all types of dialogue with you my (hopeful) readers. I hope you will rock with me and I hope you will enjoy :-)

With that being said...Alecia is the name and these are the makings of me (via some of my favorite songs):

"I'm a work in progress; I'm a seed growin' into a flower...God knows I ain't perfect; Tell me who in the world is?..."

-Brandy "Camouflage"

"Thinkin' of a master plan..." (ALWAYS)

-Rakim "Paid in Full"

"...Even if your hands are shaking and your faith is broken; even as the eyes are closing, do it with a heart wide open...say what you need to say..."

-John Mayer "Say"

"Success is my only option, failure's not...feet fail me not, this may be the only opportunity I got"

-Eminem "Lose Yourself"

"Repeat after me it's only one rule: I will not lose!"

-Jay Z "Change the Game"

Just a little fun dusting off of the surface of me!

I named my blog "freely flawed". Sounds crazy right? Well...maybe. But the way I "feel" it, there is freedom in knowing we aren't perfect. We will never be perfect. Working toward best...yes, but we humans will never reach perfection. We make mistakes! My imperfections have haunted me. They even caused me to go back and forth on if I should even start this blog. So, I'm choosing to soar in my imperfections and share it with you. Freedom comes by way of the truth--and truth is...my flaws make me....ME.

A wise person coined the saying "Done is better than perfect"...must be something to this thing called imperfection--flaws.

I promise to keep it fresh. Free. True. All heart.

Share my world. Stay tuned....Tootles.
